Breast Self Exams

My sister learned something new that I want to share. She went in for her yearly check-up at the doctor and during the breast exam she asked what she should be looking for. His response was... "nothing." The point of a self exam is for you to become familiar with your own breasts. You should be watching for lumps, bumps, or any change. If you think about it, doctors feel thousands of breasts all the time and they probably won't remember if yours change! Do your self exams. If you have any questions, go to the Susan G Komen website. There is a great video there to show you exactly how to do it. Click HERE to go straight to the site.

  1. That is the BEST advice for any woman, any age! It's so important to know your own boobies...you cant be embarrassed or afraid. Just get to know them..they will serve you well throughout your life time...feeding children...making you feel like a woman...and they will change throughout that lifetime. Always be aware of ANY changes and don't be afraid to bring up those changes with the doc! most of the time its nothing. i was 25 years old when i found my first lump.. i found it difficult to get an appt with a doc...6 doctors later i had an appt and they all kept saying you are too young...its probably just a cyst..i kept insisting i want it checked! it's my body..i have the right!! DEMAND IT!! Even as the doc was "trying to get fluid out" she said oh it's nothing...but then..yup no fluid...oh..geez i guess we better do a biopsy..no kidding..right then..that time it came back negative..but since then i have always taken my health and any changes seriously...get 2nd opinions...doctors are human...they get busy...take care of yourself..speak up! EARLY DETECTION IS THE MIRACLE THAT CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE!! Thank you Jenn for this great site and everything you do to keep the word out for women of every age! It starts with one person...YOU! love you, Bobbi
